: I've been listening to the BBC radio production of "The Lord of the Rings" and was surprised to hear a familiar name in the credits: Martin Read.

: Was that you, Martin? If so, what did you do in the series?

: I've really been enjoying it. I just finished "The Fellowship of the Ring". The BBC left out Bombadil, and seeing how much material they covered I have to agree that it was appropriate to leave him out & think trying to fit him into the movie would be a mistake - using precious time to further confuse the plot for those who haven't read the books.

No I'm afraid it wasn't me. The Martin Read on the credits is an actor with a large body of work on BBC radio (classic plays and the like) and in the Theatre - though not much TV or film. He is no relation of mine as far as I know.

The nearest I have ever come to the BBC is a mention in the BBC Wildlife Magazine a couple of years ago on some work I did which suggested an evolutionary relationship between the malaria parasite and single celled plants.
