Some of the current MERP module writers are actually addressing these issues. I've had some discussions with them concerning these and related topics, but I think it would be inappropriate for me to disclose many details.

I guess it's safe to say that future modules will portray Elves who hold personal honor and obligation in high esteem. Their relationships with each other will usually be for very long periods of time, so they have slightly different value sets than mortals.

The MERP authors do try to review the HOME books (and UNFINISHED TALES) but their extrapolations must go far beyond what Tolkien wrote.
