: : : Greetings: : : I saw one subject posted on Merp (middle-earth role play) and I : : : did not know many of you where playing. But thenagain I have a : : : question that might not be of roleplaying character. I wonders : : : a bit how the elves think, there way of valuing things and : : : there behaviour. It helps to read HoME but if any of you have : : : some tips of how to play elf in Merp I would be very helpful. : : : Thanx. : : Some of the current MERP module writers are actually addressing these issues. I've had some discussions with them concerning these and related topics, but I think it would be inappropriate for me to disclose many details. : : I guess it's safe to say that future modules will portray Elves who hold personal honor and obligation in high esteem. Their relationships with each other will usually be for very long periods of time, so they have slightly different value sets than mortals. : : The MERP authors do try to review the HOME books (and UNFINISHED TALES) but their extrapolations must go far beyond what Tolkien wrote. : I had my first look at the basic MERP book yesterday. I understand they have to take some liberties with JRRT's work to make a playable game, but why are the descriptions of physical appearance so off the mark? Fair enough for the Dorwinrim, because Tolkien never describes them but blond Sindar! Where did that come from? Celeborn and Thranduil have silver hair but all other Sindar descriptions I remember give dark hair. Also the Beornings, the only Beorning described by Tolkien, Beorn himself, had a big BLACK beard - so of course the Beornings in MERP are blond also! Wha??? For Thranduil I meant, of course, Thingol.
