: : I seem to remember Martin posting a thought regarding the connections between the wars of Middle Earth and our very own crusades. I don't seem to be able to access the Archives at the moment so I can't check, would it be possible to repost. (when you get time, I know your very busy).

: Do that Martin, I will be happy to comment on it as I have some knowledge of the Latin East and its warfare.

I remember the discussion, but I can't remember what I said (if anything) on the subject.

I would imagine I said something to the effect that I didn't see much parallel. In the absence of organised religion (at least on the part of the freeps) I cannot see that a crusade, or jihad, is really an applicable term.

After all how would you persuade an uruk of the error of his beliefs - even at the point of the sword. "Recant the evil sin of Sauron worship - or it's the comfy-chair for you!"

I do, however, tend to see the costume and armour of LOTR in a sort of quasi 12th century appearance.
