: : : We are given precious little information on Lindon, merely a lot of puzzling hints. Any thoughts on things such as cities, population, population ethnicity, army, rulership and even whether it keeps the special magic beauty of Beleriand?

: : Gil Galad was the High King and he ruled from Lindon, I presume in his day there would have been a large(ish) population and army of largely grey elves. I suppose Cirdan followed him as leader although the population must have dropped badly after the last alliance. The only majour population centre was the Grey Havens from what I know although the Dwarves seem to be numerous in the Ered Lindon maybe sections of Nogrod or Belegost survived the end of the first age. I get the feeling that it did preserve some of the "magic" of Beleriand (although never really a geographical part of Beleriand itself).

Ahh, the western parts were (I think), what about Mithlond, Harlond and Forlond? were they not population centers?

: I was going to ask this at some point but seeing Lindon and Beleriand have come up, here goes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's true that Beleriand was destroyed along with Numenor by the Valar. This puzzles me as I can see the justification for Numenor being drowned but not Beleriand. Was its distruction a "mistake" or did the Valar have a reason for it and if so, what??

Beleriand was wrecked and sunk in the War of Wrath, the "straw" (if he can be called such) that broke the camel's back (Thrangorodrim) was the fall of Ancalagon.
