: : It seems that some elves who die refuse the call from Mandos
: : and become dark spirits, what were these? Barrow-wights,
: : ghosts?
: : And can these elves be defined as evil?
: : And why did Feänor not refuse the call?
: : Neithan Turambar

: Feanor was not evil in nature, just horribly twisted and marred
: by the lies of Morgoth. He remains one of my favorite
: characters and his marring, IMO, is more tragic than the
: travails of Turin.

He may also have intuitively known that if he refused Namo's summons he might end up in worse circumstances, although Melkor's counter-summons could not have become known to the Eldar until sometime later, perhaps even after the War of Wrath.
