: I'm not so sure the Noldor of Lindon were that much of a minority. Many of the Sindar had been slain in the Wars of Beleriand, and many more had sailed over Sea at the end of the First Age.
: Also, many of the Sindar emigrated east sometime during the Second Age, thus further denuding the population of Lindon. It's true that some of the Noldor also passed eastward, but I think the majority of them stayed in Lindon.
I always thought there was a bit more than that in the westward migration of the Eldar after the war of wrath. The Lindar left behind always wanted to go the Aman but lost the opportunity. The Noldor got to Aman but wanted to go back to Middle Earth. I haven't considered the issue throughly, but my instinct tells me that the Sindar were much more willing to go over the Sea than the Noldor. I think many Noldor fell into Galadriel's camp: they actually preferred Middle Earth.
