I have a question I'd like to throw out to the group. It is often said about one text or another that it is "rejected" One of the main examples is the Galadriel and Celeborn text in Unfinished Tales. Certainly some of the details were contradicted by the later text that dealt with Amroth and Nimrodel. My question has always been however, what about the point in the prior text that were not contradicted with the later text. My POV is that rejecting the entire earlier text is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Almost all of there tales were works in progress and we really don't know where JRRT would come out in the end. At what point do you decide a text is rejected? What if a subsequent text only contradicts certains points of the prior text and other points are left unscathed? How do you deal with the "work in progress" issue? Russ
