It's all a matter of interpretation, of course. What is someones apple is another persons orange. The trouble is we now live in a society (national and international) that panders to the whims of Political Correctness (PC), which I believe is responsible for the fall of many a good tradition/belief/ideal, etc, etc. And certain people try to change the past (whether it be literiture, history, proverbs, sayings, etc, etc) to fit this *New Age* of PC that is infecting society. Now before I get totally blasted, I do not support any sort of prejudice or discrimination, whether it be sexual, racial or religious (or any other sort for that matter), but PC is responsible for giving ridiculous claims, some sort of...oh bugger I can't think of the word...... (?)respectable footing(?) in the name of making everything equal and fair. When, as with LOTR, in reality many of the targets of this sort of attack are totally misinterpreted and the real story is so very different. As MM has relayed on several occasions and so have many others. I don't understand why these people have such a problem and while they spout off unreasonable and mad rantings I don't particularly what to hear what they have to say. I just don't have the patience for people who, in their own way, are being as prejudice and discriminatory as they think we (and Tolkien) are supposed to be. Who can say where it will end, not only with Tolkien, but with the bigger issues too. But hopefully, at some point, we'll all be able to sit down like adults and talk things through, and if we do not agree, then at least we can agree to disagree in a civilised manner. Here's hopin.
