Two words: misinterpretation and attention.
There are certainly certain parts of Tolkien's work that could be misinterpreted as being prejudiced but I think that anyone who has fuuly read LOTR etc and come to love Tolkien's work will realize that it is nothing but interpretation. It is the attention-seekers who see one word or phrase or passage that may be interpreted as "not politically correct" that end up blowing things out of proportion just to get a bit of the spotlight.All that can be done is to just ignore them because even discussions like this are giving them what they want and thats attention!!
