: It's entirely possible that Bombadil's blue feather (which apparently was part of the doll) influenced Tolkien's idea of wizards in ROVERANDOM, which was originally composed in 1925 (when Michael was in possession of the doll). The first attempt at a Bombadil story dates to this same time period.

Sand sorcerer,the man in the moon, and the other man were not all wizards, And Rover refered to the group as wizards "and their friends" figure out the secret behind the characters in Roverandom, and then we know who Bombadil is!
