: No, the Ainur could not die in a manner that they would no longer exist. Even Sauron still existed in some form after the destruction of the ring, as Gandalf the White said it "...becoming a mere spirit of malice that gnaws itself in the shadows, but cannot again grow or take shape." And I think we should take Gandalf's word on this.

I heard somewhere that Sauron could one day serve as the envoy or servant to another Dark Lord one day, but could never again be great.How far wrong am I?
