: : They weren't the same Balrogs. :)

: True (what, then were they?)

DIFFERENT Balrogs. :)

: : [Oh, I have a terrible bad streak in me, I know!]

: Only occasionally;-)

Don't get me started.

: : I think you need to build a framework for "death" in Tolkien.
: : What is "death"? What do you think it is? I know I think of
: : it as, which is rather complex situation. I like the fact
: : that the Elves had more than one word for death.

: I do not want to build that framework, I just want to debate
: whether or not the Ainur would die or reform (I do not want to
: encounter Gorthmog on a dark night when I am all alone and
: unarmed;-)), You guys are really hard to pin down. But death
: seems to depend on the circumstances in which you expire....
: Who you are, how you die, etc.

I don't see how to debate or discuss anything in a meaningful way without defining a framework. Discussions based on the great unknowns invariably lead someone to nit-pick on various points which really aren't correct. I'm not well-suited for those vaguely structured kinds of discussions.

I can deal with unknowns as concrete things, but not as abstractions which can be discussed intelligently.
