: The musical score can make or break a motion picture. There are updates concerning rumors, casting and pre-production for the new LOTH movie, but I haven't seen any about who is doing the score or what type of music will be used. My preference would be classical Celtic. Celtic music covers a wide range from joyous to dark and forboding. A sound track featuring The Chieftons, or similar group, would serve nicely, in my opinion. Thoughts and opinions on the type of musical score anyone?Celtic music is already often used to put Tolkien songs to, and works very well. Some of the adaptations available are very good, and capture the spirit of Middle Earth completely. I think the filmmakers should check these out carefully before bringing in some so-called professionals who will make some commercial rubbish which fails to come close to this (ask commercial professional musicians invariably do, because they fail to grasp the *spirit* of what they are portraying). Remember, this film is likely to affect how many people imagine Middle-earth, and the songs and tunes chosen are likely to become 'official'. For background music, a celtic/baroque mix would go down well.
