: : This discussion was started a while back and i was not able to find evidince to support the idea that trolls and orcs where madein mockery of ents and elves.

: : LotR, Book III, chapter IV Treebeard

: : "...Trolls are only counterfeits, made by the Enemy in the Great Darkness, in mockery of Ents, as Orcs were of Elves."

: : well there you go.

: : Ryan

: Fangorn, old and wise as he may be, does not know everything, and percieves the world from the point of view of an Ent- what else would such åercieve the Trolls as? what if they were merely big strong "tools"? an Ent would still see them as mockeries of himself.
: read Morgoth's Ring, it throws some new light on the subject as Ronald himself was in doubt as to what Orks and trolls were. I would say that the wisest thing to do is just to assume that they are... I believe it is another of those questions with no definate answer.
: NT

It seems to me, from repeated readings in The Silmarillion, that the orcs were bred from captured and corrupted elves. This believe is stated in several places and is given as one of the reasons for the bitter hatred between the elves and orcs.
