Well, one reason I suspect we take names from the books is that we just want to show our affiliation to the Lord of the Rings. I prefer to, when I have to choose a name for something( Dungeons and Dragons, school registration forms, etc.....) I just say my elven name. There are two ways to find you're elven name. The first is to take the meaning of youre name, then find those words in an elven dictionary, yes these exist, then simply try to remember it. For example, my name is in elvish is Atonion AnelloEru Aldevasir. The other way is to find a group of elves and let them name you. In our era, elves are very difficult to find, so this method is impracticle. It is easier to just "borrow" a name from the Lord of the rings(no disrespect to those that have ;)
Keep it elvish!
