: I'm taking a poll of my own, and I was wondering why and how long ago each of you read the THE HOBBIT and/or LORD OF THE RINGS and/or THE SILMARILLION. I originally read The Hobbit about one and a half years ago, because I had seen some of Tolkien's pictures and I love art (as long it is clean, if you know what I mean) so I wanted to read the book so I could let my imagination go wild. Then after I read The Hobbit I wanted more, so I read the Lord of the Rings and I am now in the middle of The Silmarillion.I first read The Hobbit when I was about 12. I was in Grade 6 and we read a quote from the book with a whole lot of grammar errors which we had to correct. I liked the quote so much that after the class I asked my teacher where I could get a copy. She gave me her copy, I read it, loved it and have been a Tolkien addict ever since (about 17 years...I'm 29).
