Just to add one point to this debate. This business of naming weapons was not even peculiar to the Rohirrom in ME...what about Anduril, Sting, Gandalf's sword (name?) and even the chain that Melkor was bound in (name?).

I think this attribute is rather peculiar to ME, not to the Rohirrim.
