Could it be that there is a connection to the reincarnation principle, wherby Elves could be born again, and maybe, if there weren't any souls around wiating to be reincarnated, there simply weren't any births? Shadowfax, When elves are reincarnated they are not done in the Hindu sense where they are reborn, they are actually eventually put back into their adult bodies, a la Glorfindel. Every elf (save Fëanor) is eventually reincarnated with all his/her memories etc. So few births really didn't have to do with lack of souls. Jon
