: I'm new to your site, I'm in the middle of LOTR, but i have : read "The Hobbit" before like 7 times, and i don't recall and : stone-giants. But my brother and i both love the stuff like : this, and so we think it is the nazgul themselves, not their : beasts, but the ringwraiths.Welcome to the White Council. :) Giants are mentioned in a few places in THE HOBBIT. The first occurrence (I think) is during the storm in the mountains. Bilbo looks out and sees the giants hurling stones at each other in the storm. Gandalf later on says something about finding a decent giant to seal up the goblins' door in the high pass, and later when he's explaining who Beorn is to Bilbo and the Dwarves he mentions that some people believe Beorn is descended from the ancient bears which lived in the mountains before the giants came.
