In which volume(s) of HoME are the stories of Aelfwine? Is this the only story that tells how the histories of Middle Earth made it down to the present day? In other words, are there coherent stories that tell how Tolkien envisaged the "chain of custody" of the ME histories? If one of you is ambitious, could you outline this chain of transcribers for me? Secondarily, I have read LOTR, Silm., Unfinished Tales, and The Peoples of ME? What other HoME volumes are recommended? I am more interested in stories that add more knowledge about ME or Valinor (even if they are fragmentary), and less interested in volumes that only trace alternate versions and histories of the development of JRRT's stories. Thanks.
