: In LOTR Gandalf mentions that in ME there are "stranger creatures than orcs" or whatever he is referring to at the time. I'm sure this was to allow Tolkien to add something new and to keep the mystery of ME.
: What are some of the stranger creatures that Tolkien HAS mentioned?
: by "strange" i mean not Balrog, Dragons, Ents, etc. something that was maybe mentioned in unfinished tales or something?

If the references here are not enough for you Tolkien mentions some very strange creatures in Lost Tales; Suruli, Windgili etc. (those are the ones I remember anyway, but there are more), he never explains what they are.
