:
: : After thirty years of waiting for a film version of LOTR and suffering through an inadequate animimated version, news of the new LOTR film brought a smile to my face and hearty YES to my lips. Today, as more information about the film comes to light, the smile is gone and the words from my lips are "I hope what I'm hearing isn't true" and "I hope they don't screw it up too bad". Please indulge me as I blow off some steam.

: : I know that bringing a lengthy novel, like LOTR, to the screen will involve the elimination of some minor characters and minor plots. However, if the information is true, this does not appear to be the case with the new film. In the new film, a minor character's role is being expanded. Yes, Arwen is a minor character. Aside from her actions in the Houses of Healing and marrying Aragon, she is outside the events in main story line.
: : While her role is expanded, another minor character who has a major impact on the story line is eliminated. I'm talking, of course, about Tom Bombadil. Tom rescues the hobbits twice, and the second rescue supplies the hobbits with the barrow blade that causes the Nazgul Lord's destruction. Apparently, the powers that be consider this to be not worthy of inclusion. Now we learn that Arwen's role has expanded and consumed Glorfindel. What's next Arwen fighting side by side with Galadriel in defense of Lorien? Is this continuing expansion of Arwen's role designed to make the film better,or to bring more women or horny you men to the theater, or is it just a means to give an actress more screen time? Given the original nature of Arwen's character, does the role really require a well known actress?

: : The new Nazgul Lord action figure is poised to attack toy stores. If you haven't checked out pics of this figure,I mean three figures, please do so. Apparently, the Lord of Nazgul requires three different suits of armor.
: : One suit for searching for the ring, one for commanding an army from horse back and one to wear while riding a flying beast. I wonder why a being that can not be harmed by normal weapons or the hand of a man would need three ornate suits of full body armor? To me the armor on these figures have a definite sword & sorcery or dungeons & dragons flavor. If these figures accurately reflect the depiction of the Nazgul Lord in the new film, then we are not in Middle Earth anymore Frodo. What's your opinion?
: : Thanks, I feel much better now.

: Good for you, but now I feel much worse.
: One of my favorite characters; Glorfindel, merged with Arwën??? The only elf we know of to have returned both from the dead and to Endor is consumed by a Maiden (who I beleive should be sitting at home in elven society, but that is my soap-box). Thank you for making my otherwise fine day worse:-(
: enough ranting.
: NT

Agree with you with all my heart ( and my very bitter and unventable spleen!).
