: The idea is interesting, certainly! But by just taking an
: African caste and shooting in an African setting will never
: make it an African story. African culture, storytelling, songs,
: poetry, customs, etc are just so different that you would have
: to change so much that there would be little original Tolkien
: left.

The STORY would be left. You ever hear two good friends or two close relatives tell the same story about a shared experience in exactly the same way? I never have. It's amazing how different the stories can seem to be. Some authors have actually written interesting stories about the difference in perspective, and of course a number of televison shows and movies have picked up on the idea.
