You've been Tolkienized. I recall one instance where a friend and I stood upon a hill (actually a landfill, no longer used), and below us lay a sea of trees. I could not help but picture Bilbo at the top of the tree in Mirkwood, peaking his head into a new world full of 'black emperors'. Incidentally this was the scene in the cartoon movie which caused me to pick up the book back in 91. Aside from the particular, his writing has effected me in a general way. C.S. Lewis says there are rare stories which "are actual additions to life; they give, like certain rare dreams, sensations we never had before, and enlarge our conception of the range of possible experience." (Of Other Worlds page 70). This describes perfectly the effect Tolkien has had upon me.
