: I looked through Foster's Complete Guide to ME for the "Secret Fire", and I found it defined as "Holy Spirit", with reference to LotR, the Silmarillion and Kilby's book. Since Tolkien made no such statement in his published works, I was wondering whether Kilby actually quoted him saying that. Can someone in possession of this book shed light on this theological problem?In Morgoth's Ring in the Finrod and Andreth essay (specifically Tolkien's Notes thereto), there is an extended discussion that links Middle Earth theology to Tolkien's Catholic trinitarian theology.
