: >>>When Gandalf and the four hobbits are talking to Butterbur : in the Pony after their adventures (RotK, the chapter before : the Scouring of the Shire), Butterbur says he doesn't want a : bunch of outlanders coming into Bree. Gandalf then says that : there will be plenty of room for realms in all the lands south : of Bree, south of Brandywine and south of Greyflood. Were : realms really intended to be established there in the Fourth : Age? Why would they establish realms there?I think Gandalf was speaking figuratively (and, actually said there was room enough for realms between Isen and Greyflood, or along the coasts south of Baranduin). Rohan did come to include Dunland, and the Reunited Kingdom presumably included all of former Arnor from the Shire to Rhudaur. I imagine many of the people passing up the Greenway would have been Dunlendings or people from West Rohan who were of mixed blood, but maybe also some Rohirrim and people from Gondor. I think Aragorn and Eomer would have tried to reach some sort of arrangement with the Dunlendings to help them get over their antipathy for the Rohirrim.
