Yea, I can attempt to defend it as a 'less worst' version- just think what it would be like if done Today for TV- it would certainly have a love interest, more gore, "not!" jokes, fist pumping, and a flashback showing Bilbo's family messily dispatched by dragons, for the obligatory 'repressed family tragedy' sequence. Believe me, it coudda be a lot worse...

: No offence intended, but I hated that retelling of Tolkein almost as much as I shuddered after watching the Ralph (The Butcher) Bakshi's retelling of LOTR.
