: In the Council of Elrond, Gandalf made clear why he broke tryst, and couldn't be with Frodo to help him flee from the shire.: The reason was that Saruman had turned into a pompous arse, and decided to rival Sauron as an aspiring master of Middle Earth. : When Gandalf arrived at Orthanc, he was given a lecture. In the middle of his speech, Saruman called himself "Saruman the many coloured, Saruman Ring-Maker". and on his finger, there was a ring. : I take it that in mockery/copying Sauron, Saruman had studied enough ring lore to make himself a ring. Never again was this ring mentioned! I wonder what powers this ring may have had, and what happened to it. I assume that like Sauron, Saruman would have poured some of his former power into it, etc. So when his staff was broken, I assume that his ring still held some power? Then why was Saruman so weak, after the second confrontation with Gandalf? : What happened to Saruman's ring? Did it actually have any power? : And if it did, why did we never hear of it again? Maybe his Ring didn't have any power beyond his own and he was just trying to intimidate Gandalf?
