This may be old news to some of you, but please, bear with me.

I am afraid that our old "friend", the infamous David Day has done it again. That's right, he's written another book.

Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

Barnes & Noble Boksellers has recently issued three "companion" books. The Goblin Companion, The Leprechaun Companion, and the Hobbit Companion. The first two books are nice, with good art, but the third is typical Day trash.

The Hobbit Companion has actually very little to do with Hobbits themselves. Some chapters deal solely with Dwarves, Trolls, and other assorted non-topical drivel. Day actually copies the floor plan of Bag End from Fonstad's Atlas. And what book of his would be complete without truckloads of Day's trademark crackpot assumtions and guesses. He assumes that since Bucca founded the Oldbuck family, the Took family must have been founded by "Tucca"! And I suppose, Mister Day, that the Bagginses were founded by Baggy?! Of course, there is lots and lots of bad art. The Trolls look more like cariactures of Martin Short than anything else (No offense meant, Marty).

Thank goodness that this book is only sold at Barnes & Noble.

I appologize to any fans of Mister Day reading this.
