Maybe the summer letters are from Father Christmas' "Green Cousin" who supposedly lived at the South Pole. ?

Also, after the movie is completed, they might have "The Making of The Lord of the Rings" or "The Art of Middle-earth" and give away some new information; but this is mere speculation.
