Actually it would fit in better with my theories if he had said Thranduil had silver hair. I like to imagine that Thranduil and Amroth are both descendants of Elmo and cousins to Celeborn.

Well, if Thranduil can be descended from Elmo, then so can Cirdan! That would leave the 3 1st-cousins to rule the Elves of ME in the 4th Age; and maybe they all leave ME in the same 'last ship'.
