I've done some research on legolas and elves, just because of the controversy over Legolas' hair color. Here is what I found after researching 30 books on lore and fantasy (some with a section on Legolas himself.)

Most books say there are two High elf classes, half elves, wood elves and dark elves. The two High Elf classes are Nolder and Sindar, and wood elves are also called Silvian...Silvan something like that.

Anyhoo. Most books describe Legolas as a Sindar elf. The description of a sindar elf is Tall with grey-blue eyes and medium blond to white blond hair.

Other books say Legolas is a Wood elf. The description of a wood elf is not as tall as a high elf, but tall with dark sandy blond hair to medium dark blond hair.

So, pretty much, all of the descriptions I've read in books, (Including some Jrr Tolkein strategy books) agree that Wood elf, or Sindar Elf, Legolas should have blond hair... even if its a dark blond that can be mistaken for a light brown like wood elves have. No books that I've read who mention Legolas say he has dark or light brown hair. It has always been called blond.

The only elves who have dark hair are Half Elves, (Because of their human side) and I have never heard that legolas was part man part elf, and Noldar High Elves like Glorfindel is described to be.

But that is just what I read. I don't have a real opinion. I just want the guy who plays Legolas to be cute.

Robin Shou was the star in Mortal Kombat and was Chris Farely's ninja brother in Beverly Hills ninja. The cute asian with the long black hair. He's a good actor, very handsome, I've always described asians as having "elven eyes" and Robin has very pretty elven like eyes. Slap some contacts in him to make his eyes grey, and a wig should they want a blond Legolas and you have the perfect Elf.
