Great scholarship, but maybe a simpler explanation will do. The above argument (that Gildor was the son of Finrod, post-reincarnation or not) would make him a far more impoertant person than he seems to be. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked Gildor and felt that he played a crucial role running interference for the Hobbits. But he isn't high royalty. Gentry level at best, leader of a small band. The word House doesn't have to mean dynasty, close kin. It can mean "of the household of," "follower of," something like that. An elf of Nargothrond who may have fought beside Finrod, maybe even accompanied him from Cuivienen. Seems to fit the stature of the character better.
