: I beleive Eru himself 'upgraded' Gandalf in one way or the other. Physicaly Gandalf was dead but Eru ressurected him and 'upgraded' his powers.

I don't think he actually got more powers. Maybe Eru let Olorin use more of his Maiar powers than he was allowed to as Gandalf the Grey.
