: I beleive Eru himself 'upgraded' Gandalf in one way or the other. Physicaly Gandalf was dead but Eru ressurected him and 'upgraded' his powers.

I on't believe Eru had any part in the process. Eru only rarely interfered in the affairs of Arda, and then only at times of great need, such as when the Numenorians attacked Valinor. I believe itb was Manwe or other Vala who used their powers to resurrect and change Gandalf
