: The Lord of the Rings used to be my all time favorite book, but now the Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan is. Just thought I'd let anyone know who hasn't read it yet. I used to think nothing could come close the the greatness of Middle-Earth, I found it hard to believe there is something better! The only downfall is book 9 is still in the works and the series is far from complete, but in contrast... it's nice to have more to read rather than the few books by Tolkien and wishing there was more.

Well, after having read WoT on the advice of one of my teenage son's friends, all I can say is that Jordan is certainly no Tolkien. I also think Jordan is writing for the middle-school/high school crowd, not adults. WoT isn't horrible, but there is better stuff out there, and if, like myself, your reading time is limited, you might not want to waste it on this series. However,on the bright side, at least young people are reading and becoming passionate about a work of fiction that has caught their interest.
