: If the Nazgūl came from different regions of ME (only three I believe were Nśmenóreans), then wouldn't they have retained their native clothing. In other words, if one of the Nazgūl had been from the Scottish highlands, he would probably have worn a kilt (although serving Sauron faithfully). And yet the impression that I have, confirmed by all the of the paintings I have seen of the Nazgūl, is that there was a uniformity (pardon the play on words) in their clothing. Does anyone know anything about this?

Well, I believe that only the Witch King was said in LotR or Silm to have come from Numenor. Likewise with Khamul being from Rhun. All the others were given names and homes by the Middle-earth Role-Playing Game.

That raises a question I've been thinking about in my tiny little brain for quite a while. I know that according to MERP:

  • Er-Murazor (the Witch King) was from Numenor
  • Khamul (the Dragon Lord) was from the Womaw Empire (somewhere beyond the Orocarni)
  • Dendra Dwar (the Dog Lord) was from the isle of Waw (in the inner seas between South Endor and the Dark Continent)
  • Indur Dawndeath (the Cloud Lord) was from the Kiran Republic (in Near Harad, I assume)
  • Akhorahil (the Blind Sorceror) was from Numenor but lived most of his life in Tar-Ciryatandor (a few hundred miles South of Umbar)
  • Hoarmurath (the Ice King) was from Urd (in the far North of Middle-earth, near the Northern Waste), and
  • Adunaphel (the Quiet Avenger) was also from Numenor.

But where were the others from, according to MERPS?
