: : www.theonering.com pettition, the movie makers are going to
: : change tolkien!

:
: Hi - I'm a new person here - anyway, I've read all the
: responses regarding this post and I agree with most of you. It
: seems that most Tolkien sites these days are engaging in
: bickering and moaning and groaning over a movie no one has even
: seen yet. Enough already! The beauty of the LotR is in
: Tolkien's glorious use of the English language and his ability
: to touch on so many human (in the greater sense) situations.
: We all respond to it in our own way, and we all find resonance
: in different parts of the story for our own reasons. Jackson's
: movie is just one more interpretation and will be interesting
: in its own right. His work will not diminish Tolkien's in any
: way.

There is a lot of angst about the movies, and I expect a significant percentage of longtime Tolkien fans to be angry and resentful when the movies come out. I think this is a normal human reaction, and that is why I have not tried to suppress complaints about the movies on this forum. I have my own complaints. But really the time to influence Peter Jackson was years ago, before he ever set pen to paper, so-to-speak.

Like all of us he perceives Middle-earth in his own way and as much as we may agree or disagree with him, there is no one among us who has the right to say, "This is wrong and that is right." Even when I object to what I perceive to be the heavy medievality in the movies I am speaking for myself, not for J.R.R. Tolkien.

The petition may in the end do no good, but it may also give birth to something more meaningful and longterm. Only time will tell.
