: In the present political-cultural climate, I doubt if we'll see any of the Hobbits, Bree-landers, Dwarves, Strider, Gandalf or Saruman smoking pipe weed or engaging in the tobacco trade.
: I'd think of this as a small matter, but, considering that the trade is the Trojan Horse that got Saruman's hooks into the Shire, and played a (very subtly drawn) role in the fall of Saruman and his suspicions of Gandalf, I wonder how this will be handled.Let's keep in mind that this socio-politcal climate is mostly prevelant in the United States and is not embraced by every culture. And since the filming is being done in new Zealand we may see tabacco being smoked by Gandlalf, Bilbo et. al. -RobRoy
