And since the filming is being done in new Zealand we may see tabacco being smoked by Gandlalf, Bilbo et. al. : : -RobRoy : I think Ian McKellen mentioned, on his web page, something about having problems controling his beard, scarf and pipe during the filming of scene. Sounds like smoke rings may indeed be blown. I read something about a scene in which Gandalf discusses Pipe-weed with Frodo in Bag End, mentioning its modern scientific name. I disagree with this a bit, though, because tobacco was not given a scientific name until recent times.
