: : Indeed, probably the eldest son though (the one sent to the vital Council of Elrond). History is replete with examples of the heir to the throne being off in battle or diplomatic intrigue.

: : He might even have had an arrow aimed at Gimli's Dad before the Bolg boys turned up.
: : Legolas is a bit of a loser all in all though, by far the dullest character in the books (with the exception of Galadriel whom I have a singular dislike for)

: Huh? Loser? Oh well... He always was my favoutire character in the LOTR. And after reading the "Silmarillion", I have had a very strong dislike for dwarwes (because of the death of Thingol and the Sack of Doriath), undoubtedly the reason of why the Sindar Elf Legolas disliked Gimli in the beginning too. ME would have been a far better place if Aule hadn't been disobedient and Illuvatar hadn't been so lenient. But I guess we all make mistakes... Unfortunately. I am all with Caranthir in how he viewed the Dwarves.

Yeah, the dwarves were a pain too...
Illuvatar is a bit lenient on Aule, and remember both Sauron and Saruman were Aule's followers, the guy courts disaster and is a bit poor all round.
