: Each time I read the last chapter of FotR I think of how could the first book end there.
: The end with the death of Boromir is nice, but it is not really an end.
: There are so many unsolved questiones, where are Merry and Pippin? What will Aragorn choose? where are Frodo and Sam heading? where is Gollum?
: That is the part of the book where I am most eager to read more, and I cant imagine how it is when you don't have the book and you have to wait a year untill you will see what happens. I guess a lot of people will buy the book at that time.
: Does anyone of you know what people thought of the first book when it came out, concerning the end?

: Maglor

I didn't discover LOTR untill after all three books were out. I do remember finishing the first book, and immediately begining the second. I just couldn't wait to find out what happens next.

I hope the ending of the first film leaves the audience with the same feeling I experienced. Somewhere in archives is a first film ending that I envisioned. I believe, blowing my own horn, that it was darn good and would leave the audience saying "Please, tell me what happens next!" If I can do it, I don't see any reason why Jackson couldn't accomplish the same thing.
