: Just a quick question to anyone who might have an answer: Is the song "Ramble On' by Led Zepplin in reference or based on one of Tolkien's works? If so which one and could you please give some details? Are there any other songs that were inspeird by his works?Ramble On is in fact supposed to have a Tolkien ring(no pun intended) "Twas in the darkest depths of Mordor" is hard to miss. In The Battle of Evermore is a reference to RingWraiths. I've heard some people say that the "...rings of smoke through the trees" in Stairway to Heaven was an allusion to Bilbo and Gandalf smoking their pipes at Bag End but I don't know how true that is.
