: I have never read the whole of the Lotr in my native language (Finnish), only the Fotr ages ago. Yesterday I was in a bookstore and took a brief look as a Finnish edition, and the names and the speaking-styles sounded SO cheesy. I am aware that after a little while I'd get used to most of the ridiculous-sounding names etc, but there are some translations which I've been familiar with of for a long time but which still sound dumb.

: -ForadanI started reading the Norwegian translation and read the English original several years later. The Norwegian was not so "heavy" on language, but there were no major difference. Most of the names were the same, some actually makes more sense in Norwegian like dwarf names witch are based on old norse names like Thror-Thor(the god)-Tor.(witch is a common Norwegian name)
I might also add that the translator (Torstein Bugge Høverstad) recieved several prizes for his translation.
