: The Elves had many Maiar characteristics, and the decendendents of Melian and Thingol had Maiar blood. I was just wondering if Tolkein intended the Elves to be the level below Maiar amongst the Ainur.
: The Ainur (on Arda) order would in this case be: Vala, Herald, Maia, Elf.

By "Heralds" I assume you mean Eonwe and Ilmarin? In that case, they was indeed of the Maiar.
