I realize this. It's really not that big of a deal. The common movie-goer isn't going to sit down with the tape of PJ's production and go over the movie looking to exegete its meaning. On the other hand, just because JRRT said that LotR should have been longer, or that it was incomplete, does not mean that he wanted somebody else to finish it. Imagine what kind of cry would be raised if some schmoe put arms onto the Venus de Milo. I would also like to say that I will go see the movie anyway. I am really not affected either way by PJ's decision to change up Arwen's role. I would not really have posted at all unless someone else echoed my exact feelings. I disagree with PJ's decision. That's it. I'm not killing anybody for it, I'm just disagreeing. I I do not, however, see why we should wait for the movie to come out. PJ's decision is an idea. I don't think there's any reason we shouldn't question ideas until they're actualized. I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. What I meant by the tapestry analogy was that I objected to a piece of Tolkien's allegory being changed, not that it would mess up anything visual. Also, a clarification point about the Prodigal Son thing - I meant that the story would have been changed had the older son been welcoming, in that the older son's position echoes the self-righteousness of Jews at the time who looked down on the marginalized. If the older son were loving, it would not have been nearly so scathing. I'm sorry I was unclear. I misspoke. I'm going to have to watch what I say more closely. -Olorin
