: I have only recently discovered Xenite.Org, but I do have some : background in IT. If the problem is that the board is moving : too fast and you can't keep up with archiving the old messages, : (I have never tried this method of archiving) couldn't you have : an expiration date for the messages so that they are : automatically deleted or moved out of the server location into : a sub-location (e.g. a link archive html). There is no continuously running process which could monitor the boards, and the posting script is extremely simple (it's a freebie from Matt's Script Archive). I'm a pretty good programmer but my Perl is only so-so. I can delve into the scripts and figure out what they are doing, but I've never written anything sophisticated in Perl. It takes what I consider to be a very non-standard approach to things, and trying to think like a Perl programmer after 25 years of thinking in other ways is a challenge. I think the best long-term solution for me is to find another message board system, but so far it looks like people would only reluctantly accept the UBBS system, which has many faults from a user perspective but is much easier to administer.
