: snip: : On the other hand, just because JRRT said that LotR should have been longer, or that it was incomplete, does not mean that he wanted somebody else to finish it. Imagine what kind of cry would be raised if some schmoe put arms onto the Venus de Milo. : snip : : I I do not, however, see why we should wait for the movie to come out. PJ's decision is an idea. I don't think there's any reason we shouldn't question ideas until they're actualized. : I am not saying that we shouldn't discuss it, but I think the manner in which the discussions have taken place (to date) have been in an air of panic and fright. It seems to me that someone walks in the room and yells "FIRE" and then one campe scampers to put it out while the other looks around saying "Where?". I would prefer an air of, "I heard this recently on the rumor list, what are the thoughts?" Rather then, "I refuse to see the movie NOW!" It is very disheartening, and it wears. : I will continue to defend PJ until the movie is actually relreased and can stand or fall on its own, especially in light of the fact that people will continue to post their "FIRE" statements. : By the way, the trailer has been viewed already by a select group, and everyone who was there seemed very enthused. : -RobRoy Quite right, the book is all that counts in any case. If the film is a hit, great, it adds to the mystique and wonder, if it is a flop then who cares? The book is still one of the finest works of fiction ever written It is a sad reflection of the lack of imagination in the world today that anyone cares about a film when the primary work is already existant - the film at best will be an addition to the wonderful world of JRRT, it must not replace the original to those that love the book. To those that are fully square eyed, then well, who cares?? Don Q
