: I loved "Dragonslayer". IMHO it was the last good movie with an : evil dragon.Nice movie, but it's not a high quality film (bad acting, bad dialogue hurt it). The dragon is a good special effect for the time. But the movie lacks that brilliant epic feel of the great classics. : The original "King Kong" and "Mighty Joe Young" I liked, too. These should at least get honorable mention. Like I said, I couldn't think of all the films I've seen. :) : I was also quite fond of three "children's fantasy" films in : the 1980's: "The Dark Crystal" and "Labyrinth" I think were Jim : Henson's crpwning achievements. I think if he had lived longer : he could have done LotR. Also "Return to Oz"; it was closer to : the books, being sort of a cross between the second and third : books in the Oz series (there were 40 in all). "Dark Crystal" should get honorable mention as well. I thoroughly enjoyed "Labyrinth" but it also had some slow points, bad acting, and bad dialogue. It's good but doesn't merit honorable mention. : Does "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" count as fantasy? I've : always loved seeing anyone destroying a city in a giant monster : suit. Yes, but all the Godzilla films, even the first (with or without the Raymond Burr footage) doesn't hold up to the standard I'm trying to evoke. Monster movies make good (or bad) schlock, but they aren't really classics except for monster movie buffs. I loved the Gamera movies, but I wouldn't call them good fantasy.
